Selected by CPFR to develop a research management system

Posted on DateDecember 12, 2005 | CategoryNews Releases

APPTION SOFTWARE ANNOUNCES SELECTION BY CARLETON UNIVERSITY CENTRE FOR PHOTONICS FABRICATION RESEARCH TO DEVELOP RESEARCH MANAGEMENT APPLICATION

Apption Software's networked development expertise assists in developing converged application to ensure transparency and compliance with reporting requirements.

OTTAWA - Apption Software Corporation, an innovative provider of converged application development and new product introduction services, announced today that it has been selected by the Centre for Photonics Fabrication Research (CPFR) to develop a custom research management application.

This new application will be used by research team leaders, research grant administrators, university staff, industrial commercialization agents, potential investors, and graduate students. It is intended to allow for transparency in how funds are utilized by researchers and ensure that research results can be available to all benefiting parties.

Apption's expertise in networked application development allows CPFR to realize a custom application that supports the CPFR research mandate. CPFR found itself in need of a method to centrally manage the research it was funding and determined that a specialized software application was the best solution.

"Being able to tap into the technical and development expertise of the Apption team and its world-class development environment was necessary for us," said Dr. Samy Mahmoud, Dean of Engineering Carleton University. "I believe Apption's expertise in database technology, distributed network-based systems, and user interaction design will be instrumental in the successful delivery of this application."

Apption's teams follow a unique application development process proven to save customers money while providing the agility and speed they require to win business. The Apption software development process delivers scalable and robust solutions by balancing exhaustive up front architecture with the rapid delivery of successive product prototypes, maximizing short- and long-term return on development investments.

“We are pleased to provide the technology and application development expertise to help CPFR build a cutting-edge research management system," said Sam Zaid, COO of Apption Software.

Apption is committed to deliver the research management system by mid 2006. On behalf of CPFR, Apption will host all the necessary infrastructure and will provide on-going operations and support services.

About CPFR

The Centre for Photonics Fabrication Research was established in March 2005 as a collaborative research program by four Ontario universities: Carleton University (Lead), McMaster University, the University of Ottawa, and York University. The Ontario Research and Development Challenge Fund (ORDCF) awarded a major research grant to CPFR in 2005.

The main objective of CPFR is to establish research and training projects in photonics and optoelectronics that will enable collaboration among university researchers, large companies, SMEs and start-up companies in Ontario, university-based fabrication facilities and the Canadian Photonics Fabrication Centre (CPFC) at the National Research Council (NRC).
